Job description

As Junior Data Engineer, you’ll help build data products for the air‑cargo logistics industry by turning your academic knowledge into practical solutions, working closely with data engineers, software engineers, analysts, and consultants to solve real operational challenges.

Who we are

We are Rotate. We help key players across the global air cargo and logistics industry make better commercial and strategic decisions. We provide cloud-based software and analytics, world-leading market data, and data-driven strategy consulting. Our clients include top-tier airlines, airports, freight forwarders, governments, shippers, investors, and other industry stakeholders.

Founded in 2022 by a core team of former aviation strategy consultants, Rotate has grown rapidly. We now have offices in the Netherlands and Malaysia and a diverse team of around 50 professionals, including strategy consultants, data scientists, software developers, and data engineers. Demand for our work continues to grow strongly, and we are therefore looking for talented data engineers to strengthen our team.

What you’ll do

Rotate provides a online SaaS platform containing 3 main products, each of these products is developed and maintained by a core team with a mixed skillset. As a junior data engineer you will join a product team which is a collection of data engineers, software developers, customer succes consultants and business people with every skillset that is needed to keep a complex b2b system going. Your tasks are to:

  • maintain and improve current data pipelines

  • onboard new clients and data sets

  • extend and improve the current functionality of the tools

  • work with current and new clients to help understand the usage of the tool

  • work in a scrum team responsible for keeping a SaaS product going

  • understand data and how it effects operations and processing

In the team you will learn the ins and outs of the air cargo industry. Next to domain knowledge you will also work on your own skillset as a data engineer with the guidance of a senior data engineer next to you.

Why work at Rotate?

At Rotate, you’ll join a fast-moving team that’s tackling an endless stream of fascinating problems in an industry that’s essential to the global economy. We build high-impact products and strategies using modern technologies, and we’re committed to tailoring your personal and professional growth as we scale. Our performance management and learning programs are all about helping you grow, with coaching and mentorship on a daily basis.

In addition to excellent compensation, you’ll get to:

  • Build things that matter. Solve complex problems in a critical industry. Advise clients on their most fundamental strategic questions, or partner with airlines to co-develop data-driven SaaS products with the latest technology stack. Drive efficiency and sustainability in global supply chains.

  • Write your own story. Feel like an entrepreneur within a well-funded company and established team. Help us build Rotate and share in our joint success. Partner with us to tailor your development and career ambition.

  • Live unforgettable experiences. Get exposed to different cultures, go on unforgettable offsites, experience the highs and lows of scale-up life…and if you’re keen, travel the world and eat sushi in Tokyo!

Job requirements

Your qualifications

We’re looking for curious, motivated self‑starters who are eager to learn, experiment, and grow into the role of a data engineer. You enjoy solving problems, asking questions, and taking ownership of your work, even if you’re still figuring things out. You thrive in a supportive, flexible environment where you can make a real impact while developing your skills.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • A completed university in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field

  • Some hands‑on experience with Python, through internships, projects, coursework, or personal experiments

  • A basic understanding of data pipelines, APIs, or distributed systems, and the motivation to deepen your knowledge

  • Interest in DevOps concepts such as CI/CD, cloud platforms, or containerization (experience is a plus, not a requirement)

  • A proactive, solutions‑oriented mindset: you like breaking down problems and trying things out

  • Strong communication skills: you can explain your thinking and enjoy collaborating with both technical and business colleagues

  • Fluency in English (additional languages are a bonus)

  • Curiosity about AWS, Kubernetes, monitoring, or data processing workflows, with the willingness to learn these on the job

  • Genuine interest in the aviation industry

Where is Rotate located?

We are based in Utrecht, within 2 minute walking distance from Central Station. We find value in being together to collaborate, but we offer flexibility to accommodate different ways of working.
